Our Team
The Child Health Fund an American secular non-profit foundation incorportated in Massachusetts. Below you will find biographies the Board of Directors and our current volunteers.
Board of Directors
Kenneth Christopher, MD (Executive Director, founder) coordinates the The Child Health Fund’s team to develop, revise, and plan fund raising programs and evaluate the impact of our grants. He graduated from New York Medical College in 1997, studied at Harvard School of Public Health and was a Harvard Macy Scholar focused on technology in education.  He works in patient care, research and education at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.   Kenneth’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health.  Kenneth is the recipient of awards in medical education from Harvard Medical School, patient care from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and clinical research from the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Clare Horkan, MBBCh (founder) plays a crucial role guiding The Child Health Fund’s development. She graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1999, where she studied Medicine. As part of her training, Clare worked in Eldoret, Kenya at the Moi University Hospital in 1997.  She was a National Cancer Institute Fellow and performed award winning cancer research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.  She currently works as a Hospitalist at Boston Medical Center.  In 2011 she will join the Hospitalist Service at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.  She has provided crucial guidance and support to the small philanthropist foundation since its inception.
Michael Winter is an M.D. candidate at Tufts Medical School, who has worked with Dr. Rick Hodes in Addis Ababa and in clinical research.  Michael graduated from Middlebury College in 2008.  Michael provided the initial inspiration for The Child Health Fund.
Mallika Mendu, MD, MBA is currently a resident physician at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.  She completed a joint MD, MBA with the Yale School of Management and the Yale School of Medicine.  She has continued her study of health care management in the Brigham and Women’s Internal Medicine Leadership Track.  Her research focus is on socioeconomic factors related to health care outcomes.
Sam Zager, MPhil (Secretary) will receive an M.D. from Harvard Medical School and will begin training in Family Medicine at Maine Medical Center in 2011. At Oxford University, he studied Economic and Social History and has published award-winning research related to health disparities. Sam conducted a community health needs assessment in Quilmes, Argentina; and organized top health leaders in Boston to protest proposed public library closures in underprivileged neighborhoods. He has held leadership positions in the Massachusetts Academy of Family Physicians and in Primary Care Progress, a national organization dedicated to enhancing Primary Care infrastructure. Before entering medicine, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy and then served seven years as a naval officer.
Regional Volunteers
Catherine Christopher Sage is an Associate at Covance a world leading drug development services company. She is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley.  She is coordinating the The Child Health Fund’s funding development in California.
